Call for Papers
Nursing & Allied Health in Wilderness and Remote Medicine
(Open call - No deadline)
We invite nurses and other allied health team members to submit high-quality manuscripts on topics that span their roles, preparation, and contributions in wilderness, austere, and remote healthcare.
Wilderness medicine is a team sport. Clinicians from a wide range of disciplines make meaningful contributions to patient care, safety, and innovation in the world’s most challenging environments. Yet, there remains a notable gap in the literature highlighting the diverse experiences and perspectives of nurses and allied health professionals who practice in these settings.
Through this call for papers, WEM seeks to help close that gap by amplifying the voices, research, and field expertise of interdisciplinary health team members working in wilderness and remote care. We welcome original research, reviews, and practice-based papers that explore topics such as:
- Clinical practice, education, and leadership in wilderness or austere environments
- Interprofessional teamwork, collaboration, and systems of care in remote contexts
- Training, competency development, and simulation for wilderness and expedition healthcare
- Innovations in telehealth, mobile diagnostics, and field medicine led by nursing and allied-health professionals
- Health outcomes, occupational risks, and preventive practices in wilderness or expeditionary care
By sharing your work, you contribute to advancing evidence-based practice and strengthening the foundation of wilderness and environmental medicine as a truly interdisciplinary field.
Please see the WEM Guide for Authors for more information about the journal and submission guidelines. Please note, the journal can only evaluate a full manuscript; not a topic idea. Please submit completed manuscripts via our editorial system (link below). Once the manuscript is submitted, it will be entered into the editorial process and suitability for review will be determined at that time.
