We are pleased to announce that Wilderness & Environmental Medicine (WEM) invites researchers, clinicians, educators, and field practitioners to submit original manuscripts for an upcoming special issue dedicated to Mountain Medicine.
Scope & Topics of Interest
We welcome high-quality submissions that explore the unique challenges, innovations, and evidence-based practices in mountain and high-altitude environments, including but not limited to:
• High-altitude physiology and acclimatization
• Mountain rescue and evacuation strategies
• Cold weather injuries and prevention
• Avalanche safety and survival
• Expedition medicine and logistics
• Mental health and performance in extreme environments
• Novel technologies and telemedicine in remote mountain care
Submission Guidelines
• Manuscripts should present original research, brief reports, case reports, reviews, editorials, concepts, and lessons from history.
• All submissions must follow WEM’s author guidelines: Submission Guidelines: Wilderness & Environmental Medicine: Sage Journals.
• Please indicate “Mountain Medicine Special Issue” in your cover letter.

- Submission Deadline: June 1, 2027
- Expected Publication: June 2028

All submissions will undergo the same rigorous, single-blind peer review process as any other submitted manuscript to WEM. Final decisions regarding ultimate acceptance rest solely with the Editors. Authors should submit manuscripts through the journal’s online submission system with a statement in the cover letter that the submission is intended for the special issue on Mountain Medicine.
