Hello fellow Students!

Hope all is well with you and I am excited to bring you all some updates!

First and foremost, I'd like to announce the creation of the WMS Student Fund, approved at the Park City board meeting. This fund is primarily for making opportunities offered by the WMS more affordable (conference registration, WMS student elective, etc.). To raise money for this fund (which the WMS will generously match), we as students will be holding a "Climb a 14'er" over the 2013 summer conference. We will strive for 100% student participation in helping lead/guide other WMS conference attendees up the mountain. More information regarding the climb will be available over the coming months.

A formal announcement of the fund will be made on the student website describing the application process of applying for money; applications are not yet being accepted.

On an equally exciting note, I am happy to announce that the WMS Board of Directors has approved a motion for lowering student membership costs from $50 to $10 per year, demonstrating its strong commitment to its growing student body. This generous offer on behalf of the WMS significantly lowers the financial barrier of a student interested in joining our society. Student Membership will come with online (not printed) access to the Wilderness and Environmental Medicine journal, the official publication of the WMS. For more information, please visit the student website (wms.org/students).

Regarding the upcoming conference this summer:

(1) We are assembling a list of conference attendees that are willing to "host" a student in a spare bed, couch or space on the floor. As our budgets as students are often tight, if you are interested in a free place to lay down for the night, send me an email and I will add you to the student list. Be sure to include: Name, Gender, Contact information, Name & Graduation year of School, WMS Membership # and expiration date, and dates of housing needed.

(2) If you'd like to volunteer at the conference, please check the student website for application instructions.

Once again, I'd like to bring your attention to the Student Webpage (wms.org/students). You will find updates, educational opportunities, past newsletters and more! Also, do not hesitate to contact me or any ofthe committee chairs for more information or ways to be involved.

Don't forget to also check us out on Facebook!

Looking forward to seeing you all at the summer meeting!

Ali
