Camping trek to Wongchhu Sherpa Memorial Hospital (WSMH) via Dudhkunda Lake
The Wilderness Medical Society and our prestigious Nepali partner, Wongchhu Peak Promotion, invite you to join us for an exciting camping and trekking trip to the recently inaugurated Wongchhu Sherpa Memorial Hospital (WSMH) and then on to explore a recently opened route to the Dudhkunda Lake with a climb up to 16,993 ft (5,181m). You'll enjoy the breathtaking views of Mt. Everest (8,848m), Mt. Makalu (8,463m), and Mt. Numbur (6,958m) along the way. Participants will experience first-hand the diverse cultures of different communities such as Khaling Rais, Sherpas, Magars, Bishwokarmas, Tamangs and Gurungs during this once in a lifetime experience in Nepal.
The trek begins with a hotel stay and sightseeing in Kathmandu followed by a drive to Khamding, then camping at the WSMH. After a leisure day at the hospital, the trek continues to Pikey Basecamp and onwards to Jasmane Bhanjyang and Taktor with more camping along the way. From Taktor, you will trek to Thupten Chholing Monastery, then to Yak Kharma and Saharsbeni. On the 10th day, a highlight will be hiking to Dudhkunda lake and then back to Saharsbeni for an overnight stay in a tea house, followed by a final trek back to Ringmo and return back to Kathmandu for two final hotel night stays.
This trek and camping trip requires participants to walk uphill for up to 4-8 hours a day while carrying a light day pack which includes water, snacks, and an extra jacket, but heavy duffels will be portered.
