About the WMS

Saving lives doesn't just happen at a hospital or in a doctor's office. The Wilderness Medical Society equips its members to treat patients in any setting, from the desert to the ocean, from mountains to space, and everything in between. As the world's largest non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the specialty of wilderness medicine, we have approximately 4,100 members from nearly 50 countries. Our mission is to inspire others to be alive in the wilderness, whether that's you coming to life as you step out of your day-to-day job and into the wilderness, or preparing you to treat an emergency in a geographic location with limited resources, all healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, EMTs, paramedics, and members of ski patrol and search and rescue, are invited to become members.
