Benjamin Abo, DO, Paramedic, EMTT, FAWM, FAEEM - Dr. Abo is an EMS, emergency physician, & toxinologist currently practicing in Florida. He is clinical assistant professor for Florida State University College of Medicine and faculty at Touro University College of Medicine-California. He serves as medical director for a number of fire-rescue services in Florida including Gainesville, Naples, Sanibel, Captiva Island, Pine Island, Iona-McGregor, and Bonita Springs, and as medical director for all Escambia County emergency services. He also serves as coordinator, medical team manager, and medical officer for FEMA USAR IST and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue USAR Florida Task Force 1 as well as Miami-Dade Fire Rescue’s Venom One Venom Response Unit. He is on the medical board for FOAMFrat and the International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC), as well as serving as medical director/safety director for a number of TV and movie productions such as Nat Geo Wild, Shark Week, and Kings of Pain as well as a consultant for international news agencies such as CNN and BBC. He has practiced medicine on six continents and was the Carolina Wilderness EMS Externship’s Pilot Extern. His varied experiences in clinical EMS, technical and disaster rescue, and wildlife related casualty care have led to numerous speaking engagements, consultations, book chapters and consensus guideline involvement. Dr. Abo has also co-founded the Asclepius Snakebite Foundation and has become the first Fellow in the western hemisphere of the Academy of Extreme Environment Medicine. Michael G. Millin, MD, MPH, FACEP - Dr. Millin is President and Medical Director, Austere Medical Professionals (AMP)/Maryland and Mid-Atlantic Wilderness Rescue Squad. Recently retired from a 20-year practice as an emergency physician at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Dr. Millin has over 30 years of experience in wilderness EMS. He began his career in medicine as a WEMS provider with the National Ski Patrol system, he is a past medical advisor for NSP, and an author and contributing medical editor for the 5th edition of the NSP textbook Outdoor Emergency Care. He completed fellowship training in EMS at the Oregon Health & Science University in 2004. During fellowship he worked as an associate physician supervisor for the American Medical Response Reach and Treat (RAT) mountain search and rescue team. Dr. Millin is a principal founding member and medical director of AMP, an ALS capable wilderness EMS team with statewide jurisdiction in Maryland and Virginia. The clinicians with AMP have a scope of practice that is defined and set by the Maryland wilderness EMS protocols that were authored by Dr. Millin. Austere Medical Professionals focuses on wilderness medical response in support of other public safety agencies as well as outdoor recreation groups such as mountain bike endurance races and orienteering competitions. Dr. Millin has raised awareness of WEMS issues with the National Association of EMS Physicians and the National Association of State EMS Officials, serving as a past chair of the WEMS committee with NAEMSP and authoring numerous articles focused on the training and scope of practice of WEMS clinicians.

Will R. Smith, MD, NR-Paramedic, FAEMS, FAWM - Dr. Smith is an EMS and emergency medicine physician currently practicing in Jackson Hole, WY and is a clinical assistant professor for the University of Washington School of Medicine. Locally, he serves as the Co-Medical Director for Grand Teton National Park, Teton County Search & Rescue, Jackson Hole Fire/EMS, and Bridger Teton National Forest. Dr. Smith is the Medical Director for Wilderness Medical Associates International, as well as several other companies. He also serves as a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve Medical Corps. COL Smith has practiced medicine around the world on 6 continents, from “Baghdad ER” to Easter Island. His combat experience, prehospital EMS experience as a Paramedic, and technical Search & Rescue skills have led to numerous speaking engagements and consulting in wilderness and emergency medicine around the world. Dr. Smith has also been appointed to several national committees (American Heart Association), authored numerous book chapters and consensus guidelines on wilderness and rescue medicine, and serves as a subject matter expert for DARPA.
