The Wilderness Medical Society's Student Interest Groups (SIGs) give medical students and residents/fellows an opportunity to explore the field of wilderness medicine through student electives and research opportunities. Students are also able to network with leaders in the field, and each other, at annual conferences.
You can join the society individually ($50 per year or $175 for four years) or through the SIG at your school. For more information about joining the Wilderness Medical Society please email the Membership Committee. If you are a SIG leader or are interested in starting a SIG at your school, check out the SIG resources.
Those interested in serving in a national leadership role have the opportunity to join one of our many committees.
In additional to academic opportunities, the SIG website also provides an outlet for students to come together and foster friendships that will last beyond medical school and residency. We have recently developed a Facebook Group as well as a Google Group where students can meet and discuss research/elective opportunities, upcoming conferences, and wilderness medicine in general.
Additionally, we run the Round Table at the annual summer and winter conferences involving both student/faculty led events and social activities.
We are a student run organization and as such are very open to your input. Please send any comments/suggestions to the WMS Student Representative.
