WMS Affiliation Program

As a unique, education and research based membership orgainization, the Wilderness Medical Society exists to develop and promote the evolving body of knowledge in the area of Wilderness Medicine.  Our annual conferences disseminate knowledge from our esteemed member lecturers across a wide body of learning and experience as well as foster interaction among members. The WMS attracts individuals from around the world interested in "Combining their Profession with their Passion".

Consequently, the WMS is uniquely positioned to enter into symbiotic relationships with a variety of organizations.  As a non-profit focused on the advancement of the science of Wilderness Medicine, we do not intend to compete against other entities focused on the delivery of specialized products or programs within any particular field.  In fact, to the extent that our goals overlap with the goals of any entity involved directly or indirectly with Wilderness Medicine, we offer a partnership framework through our affiliation program to maximize our mutual benefit.

The program consists of three optional levels of participation based upon the number of benefits exchanged.  Adherence to this program prevents inconsistencies in our professional relationships with all organizations and clearly outlines expections.  The following table summarizes the levels of affiliation offered by the WMS:

The WMS Executive Committee reviews new and renewing applications and makes determinations regarding affiliation. Upon agreement, parties sign an Affiliation Agreement which outlines rules, obligations and benefits in detail.  If a partner is not accepted at the proposed level, they will be automatically considered for the next highest level.

Application requirements for Affiliation with the WMS:

• You must be a current Member of the Wilderness Medical Society.
• You must have a leadership role in the Affiliated Organization.
• You will become our primary contact for the Affiliated Organization.
